Update of theLatest on Electronic Recycling

March 1, 2016

In November 2010 PA passed Act 180, the Covered Devise Recycling Act prohibiting TVs, computers and all other electronic items from disposal in landfills in PA and requiring mandatory recycling of these items.  Recently representatives of PA DEP informed us that this act is failing in the attempt to get manufacturers to accept these items.  This is becoming a crisis situation in many counties in PA.  We are told that Lackawanna County Recycling Center, 3400 Boulevard Ave in Scranton (570 963-9238) is still collecting undamaged or not broken electronics. There is no guarantee how long this will continue.  If you are anticipating disposal of TVs or electronics in the near future please consider doing it ASAP.

UPDATE

Effective May 2, 2016   The Lackawanna County Recycling Center will charge $1.00 per pound for electronics dropped off for recycling at their Scranton facility.  You will also be required to have a photo ID showing residency in Lackawanna County.  We are told there will be no fee for items dropped off during April 2016.
